Dolls update: Ghoul Spirit and Dead Tired Spectra

Negli ultimi mesi i miei acquisti dollosi sono drasticamente calati a causa dell'aumento dei prezzi e della lentezza con cui arrivano in Italia le nuove uscite MH. Ma, grazie a qualche colpo di fortuna, la mia collezione continua a crescere, seppur più lentamente :)
Le protagoniste della recensione di oggi sono Spectra Ghoul Spirit e Spectra Dead Tired, avendo io già Spectra basic, ne ho approfittato per confrontare le varie versioni di questo personaggio.
Ho ricevuto Spectra Ghoul Spirit come premio del giveaway organizzato da The Doll Room alcuni mesi fa (un grande grazie a Starr per il premio e per aver aspettato così a lungo le mie foto ^_^).

During the last months my dolly purchases have drastically decreased due to rising prices and how slowly new MH releases arrive in Italy. But, thanks to some lucky chance, my collection is still growing, though slowly :) The protagonists of today's review are Ghoul Spirit Spectra and Dead Tired Spectra, since I already own basic Spectra, I had the chance to compare the different versions of this character. 
I received Spectra Ghoul Spirit as a prize for the giveaway organized by The Doll Room a few months ago (a big thanks to Starr for the prize and for waiting so long for my pictures ^_^).

Spectra Ghoul Spirit fa parte di una serie economica (qui in Italia si trova tra i 18 e i 22euro, che non è poco, ma in America dovrebbe costare molto meno...) dedicata alla tifoseria, infatti indossa una maglietta e degli orecchini con il logo della scuola e ha anche un pon pon molto carino (trovo però un pò strano che ne abbia uno solo, magari proverò a procurarmene un altro con qualche lotto di accessori...). Il resto delsuo outfit è composto da una gonna con stampa a catene, scarpe fucsia con "manette" alle caviglie

Spectra Ghoul Spirit is part of a low cost series (here in Italy you can find it between 18 and 22euros, which is not so cheap, but in USA it should cost a lot less...) dedicated to cheerleading, in fact, she's wearing a t-shirt and earrings with the school logo and she has also a very cute pom pom (though I find it a little strange that she has only one, maybe I'll try to get another with an accessories lot...). The rest of her outfit consists of a skirt with chain print, fuchsia shoes with ankle shackles 

e un set di bracciali e cerchietto abbinati che riprendono il blu nel logo MH sulla maglietta (il cerchietto è fissato alla testa con due piccoli perni di plastica e temo che tagliandolo via non starebbe più al suo posto...).

and a set of bracelets and headband matching the blue in MH logoon her t-shirt (the headband is secured to the head with two small plastic pins and I think that it will never stay firmly there anymore if you cut them off...)

Questa versione di Spectra ha un trucco molto più acceso e tendente al fucsia rispetto alle altre che invece hanno toni più freddi come lilla e viola. Ma la differenza principale, oltre al make up, è la presenza di alcune ciocche nere tra i capelli (che tra l'altro mi piacciono molto, le danno un'aria più dark :)) oltre alle classiche mèches lilla.

This version of Spectra has a brighter fuchsia makeup compared to others that have cooler tones such as lilac and purple. But the main difference, besides her make up, is the presence of a few strands of black hair (which I really like, they give her a darker look :)) in addition to the classic purple streaks of other Spectras.

Ma ora passiamo all'altra protagonista di oggi: Spectra Dead Tired.
Qualche tempo fa la nuova serie Dead Tired (composta da Spectra, Lagoona e Robecca) era in super offerta  nei supermercati Lidl (12euro contro i 22 degli altri supermercati) e Dani, dopo avermi vista per una settimana con gli occhi sbrilluccicosi davanti allo scaffale delle bambole,  ha deciso di farmi un piccolo regalo di compleanno *_* (stavamo risparmiando per un breve viaggio a Londra di cui vi parlerò presto e gli avevo chiesto di non regalarmi nulla).

But now let's present the other star of today's review: Dead Tired Spectra.
Some time ago the new Dead Tired series (composed of Spectra, Lagoona and Robecca) was super discounted in Lidl supermarkets (12euros, she's usually 22 in the other supermarkets) and Dani, after seeing me for a week with bright eyes  in front of the doll's shelf, decided to get me a little birthday gift * _ * (we were saving for a short trip to London, of which I will talk soon, and I asked him not to buy me any birthday present).

Anche la Dead Tired è una serie economica, infatti l'outfit di Spectra è piuttosto semplice (ma comunque molto carino), è composto da una camicia da notte, mascherina per dormire e pantofole pelose (anche qui ritorna il tema delle catene tipico del personaggio).

Dead Tired also is a low cost series, in fact Spectra's outfit is quite simple (but still cute), it consists of a nightgown, a sleeping mask and furry slippers (again with a chain theme, which is typical of her character).

Inoltre nella confezione è incluso anche una specie di tablet a forma di bara, ovvero uno di quei minuscoli accessori che una bambina rischia di perdere nel giro di 10 minuti, visto che non c'è modo di farlo reggere alla bambola, se non con delicati giochi di equilibrio (tra l'altro il videogioco stampato sullo schermo mi ricorda tantissimo Angry Birds XD).

In the box there is also a coffin shaped tablet, one of those tiny accessories soon to be lost by little girls, since there's no way to make the doll hold it other than with delicate balancing (by the way, the videogame printed on the screen reminds me a lot of Angry Birds XD).

Rispetto alla Ghoul Spirit, questa versione di Spectra ha colori molto più tenui, sia nel trucco, tendente all'azzurro, che nei capelli (questi ultimi tra l'altro sono più corti e scalati).

Compared to Ghoul Spirit Spectra, this version has lighter and cooler colors, both in her light blue makeup and in her hair (which are shorter and graded).

Qui sotto potete vederle entrambe a confronto con Spectra basic, è incredibile quanto cambia la resa finale del viso variando solamente il trucco!

Recensione Hennè Sahara Tazarine/ Henna Sahara Tazarine review

Dopo aver indossato abiti vittoriani, in questi giorni ho realizzato un'altro piccolo sogno: avere i capelli rossi! Fin da quando ero bambina ho sempre invidiato le chiome infuocate di Pippi Calzelunghe, Ariel e Anna di Green Gables, ma ora anch'io sono baciata dal fuoco, anzi...dall'hennè!
Era da un pò che volevo provarlo, non solo per la colorazione, ma anche per i suoi effetti benefici (pare che aiuti a proteggere i capelli e rinforzare i capelli sfibrati), così grazie anche ai consigli di Piperita Patty e di un paio di amiche più esperte nel campo, questo weekend mi sono cimentata nell'impresa.
Come hennè ho scelto la marca Sahara Tazarine in scatola gialla, che dovrebbe essere per i tatuaggi, ma va benissimo anche per i capelli (anzi, stando alle recensioni che ho letto sul web, pare che colori anche meglio della versione apposita per capelli in scatola verde) essendo polvere di Lawsonia pura senza picramati nè altre altre sostanze chimiche. Il problema con questa marca è la reperibilità: la si trova abbastanza facilmente su internet ma a prezzi decisamente alti, mentre nei negozi non è facilissima da trovare, i posti migliori dove cercarla sono i minimarket e le macellerie arabe, che la importano direttamente e la fanno pagare molto meno (una scatolina da circa 100gr l'ho pagata 2.50 euro in un negozietto a Torino, contro i 12 euro di ebay).

 After wearing Victorian clothing, these days I fulfilled another little dream: dying my hair red! Ever since I was a child I always envied the fiery hair of Pippi Longstocking, Ariel and Anne of Green Gables, but now I'm kissed by fire (well, by henna ^_^) too!I was thinking to try henna from a while, not only for the color, but also for its beneficial effects (it helps protecting and strengthen damaged hair), so thanks to the advices of Piperita Patty and a couple of friends more experienced in the field, this weekend I gathered all the supplies needed. 
I chose the henna brand Sahara Tazarine in yellow box , which is meant to be used for tattoos, but that's great also for hair dyeing (in fact, according to the reviews I read on the net, it seems that it dyes even better than the green box one which is for hair) because it's pure powder of Lawsonia without picramati nor other chemical ingredients. The problem with this brand is the availability : you can find it quite easily on the internet but at higher prices, while it's not easy to find in shops, the best places to look for are ethnic convenience stores and Arabian butcher shops, who imports it directly and charge much less (I paid €2.50 for a small 100g box in a shop in Turin, while it starts from €12 on Ebay).

Hennè Tazarine in scatola verde (preferite quella gialla se la trovate)/ green box Tazarine henna (yellow is better)

Ho preferito questa marca rispetto ad altre perchè dona riflessi più caldi e ramati, specialmente se miscelata con camomilla e curcuma.
Nonostante io sia un pò pasticciona con queste cose, sono riuscita a prepare l'impacco e ad applicarlo senza intoppi (e senza tingere di rosso tutto il bagno e Dani che mi ha dato una mano), ho miscelato la polvere con della camomilla bella forte (la curcuma non l'avevo) e 3 cucchiai di miele per addensarla un pò. Ho lasciato ossidare il composto solo una ventina di minuti, il tempo di farmi uno shampoo e preparare tutto l'occorrente per l'applicazione e l'ho tenuto in posa 2 ore (non ho fotografato queste fasi, credetemi, non volete vedermi con un  grumo di fanghiglia verde in testa XD); dopo di chè ho sciacquato bene i capelli sotto l'acqua calda corrente fino a rimuovere ogni rimasuglio di hennè secco, senza usare nè shampoo nè balsamo perchè scaricano il colore.
Una volta asciugati i capelli... meraviglia! Dal mio castano chiaro con punte bionde sono passata ad un bel castano ramato con riflessi rossi intensissimi, soprattutto sulle punte che ora sono quasi pel di carota!
 

I preferred this brand over others because it gives brighter and coppery reflections, especially if mixed with chamomile and turmeric.

Even though I'm usually a bit clumsy with these things, I was able to prepare and apply the mixture smoothly (and without dyeing red the bathroom and Dani who helped me), I mixed the powder only with strongly infused chamomile (I didn't have turmeric) and 3 tablespoons of honey to thicken it a bit. I left the compound oxidize only about twenty minutes, just the time to take a shampoo and prepare everything I needed to apply it, and I kept it on my hair for 2 hours (I don't have pictures of this step, believe me, you don't want to see me with slimy green mud on my head XD), after that I rinsed my hair thoroughly under hot running water to remove any leftover dried henna, without using neither shampoo nor conditioner because it wash off the color a bit.Once I dried my hair... what a wonder! My hair, from their natural light brown with blonde bits, turned into a beautiful coppery brown with bright red highlights, especially on the tips that are now almost little ginger!

Inoltre i capelli al tatto sembrano meno secchi di prima, magari con questo stratagemma riesco a evitare di tagliarli ancora per un pò. Sono molto soddisfatta del risultato e credo che tra qualche mese lo rifarò per vedere se con più applicazioni riesco ad arrivare ad un rosso più carico :)

Also they look less damaged and dry to the touch, maybe with this remedy I can keep them long for a little more. I'm very happy with the resulting color and I think I'll do it again in a couple of months to see if I can reach a lighter and more intense red :)

Sogno di una notte di fine inverno/ A late winter's night dream

Qualche settimana fa (sono un pò in ritardo con i post ^^) ho partecipato all'evento autoconclusivo Sogno di una notte di fine inverno, organizzato dall'associazione torinese di gioco di ruolo dal vivo Terre Spezzate. Posso dire che è stato il più bel evento larp a cui abbia mai partecipato, era tutto perfetto: la location (il Villaggio delle Stelle a Lusernetta San Giovanni), i costumi, la trama, l'atmosfera...
Se volete saperne di più, sul sito di Terre Spezzate troverete tutte le informazioni sull'evento (che tralaltro, credo verrà replicato prima o poi e vi consiglio caldamente di partecipare, ne vale davvero la pena), intanto per stuzzicare un pò la vostra curiosità, vi incollo un breve riassunto della trama:
"Witzenburg è un tranquillo villaggio di montagna. Un piccolo paese con le sue dinamiche interne, gli amori e le antipatie tra gli abitanti,gli umili lavori di ogni giorno e i pettegolezzi di una comunità chiusa. Nel villaggio, abitudinario e bigotto, giunge un gruppo di stranieri, la Straordinaria Compagnia Errante di Balthasar Lunenciel, che si esibirà in occasione dell’inizio della primavera e muterà gli equilibri, portando assieme all’intrattenimento la novità e l’esotismo."
La trama e l'ambientazione contengono molti rimandi alle fiabe dei fratelli Grimm e alle atmosfere farsesche di Shakespeare e Goldoni, molto diverso quindi dagli eventi fantasy a cui avevo partecipato finora, anche dal punto di vista costumistico, infatti il villaggio di Witzemburg si colloca idealmente in un immaginario '800 fiabesco.

A few weeks ago (I'm a little late with posting ^ ^) I participated in the one-shot event "A late winter's night dream", organized by the Turin based Larp group Terre Spezzate. I can say this was the best Larp event I've ever attended, everything was perfect: location (Villaggio delle Stelle in Lusernetta S. Giovanni), costumes, plot, atmosphere...
If you want to know more, on Terre Spezzate's website you can find all the informations about the event (which will probably be replicated sooner or later and I strongly suggest you to attend, it is really worth it), meanwhile I'll paste here a brief summary of the plot to increase your curiosity:
"Witzenburg is a quiet mountain village. A small country with its own internal dynamics, loves and dislikes among the inhabitants, the humble everyday work and the rumors of a closed community. One day, in the habitual and bigot village, arrives a group of foreigners, the Extraordinary Wandering Company of Balthasar Lunenciel, who will perform during last winter's night and will change the balance in the village, bringing together entertainment, novelty and exoticism."
The plot and setting contain many references to Brothers Grimm's fairytales and to the farcical atmosphere of Shakespeare and Goldoni's plays, very different from the fantasy events that I attended so far, even from the point of view of costumes, in fact the village of Witzenburg is ideally placed in an imaginary 19th century.

La cosa più incredibile di questo evento è stato l'altissimo livello di immedesimazione nel personaggio: è stato davvero come vivere per due giorni in un altra epoca, con una famiglia diversa (ogni gruppo familiare aveva una baita tutta per sè e si viveva assieme anche nei momenti di pausa dal gioco) e diverse abitudini.
Un'altra particolarità di questo evento (già sperimentata alla Fortezza dei vinti, organizzato sempre da Terre Spezzate) è la presenza di personaggi "prefatti": invece di crearsi il proprio personaggio, scegliendo personalmente nome, background e abilità, per questi due eventi gli organizzatori hanno fornito una lista di personaggi (un pò come il cast di un film o di un'opera teatrale) tra cui scegliere, fornendo per ciascuno di essi un canovaccio di trama personale e relazioni con gli altri personaggi a cui attenersi, ma lasciando comunque un buon margine di personalizzazione, infatti sarà il giocatore, con le sue azioni, a decidere come si comporterà il suo personaggio durante l'evento e come ne uscirà alla conclusione. Ad esempio il mio personaggio di Sogno era Gretchen Mayer, l'ipocondriaca del villaggio (è stato divertentissimo inventarsi malanni più o meno immaginari per evitare qualunque attività produttiva XD), nipote del sindaco (avevo quindi diversi parenti tra zii, zie e cugini) e affezionata cliente del medico e dell'erborista, essendo sempre malata!
A prima vista può sembrare fastidioso doversi attenere a delle linee guida per il proprio personaggio, ma io credo che sia invece un buon modo sia per aiutare i giocatori meno esperti, magari alla loro prima esperienza larp, che così avranno qualche spunto di interpretazione da cui partire; sia per dare la possibilità a chi gioca da più tempo di migliorare le proprie capacità interpretative, cimentandosi con ruoli magari diversi dal solito.

Un altro aspetto di questo evento che mi è piaciuto molto è stata la realizzazione del costume: ho sempre amato molto l'epoca vittoriana dal punto di vista della moda e finalmente ho avuto l'occasione di realizzare e indossare abiti ottocenteschi!
Essendo Gretchen un personaggio un pò cupo ho preferito evitare colori troppo accessi per i suoi abiti, ma mi sono sbizzarrita un pò con accessori eleganti e "cittadini", visto che comunque appartiene a una delle famiglie più importanti di Witzemburg.
Avrei voluto dare un pò più di volume alla gonna, ma non sono riuscita a trovare in tempo una crinolina lunga economica, quindi alla fine ho sovrapposto una petticoat corta che usavo con le gonne lolita e un gonnellone di sangallo lungo alla caviglia che ho recuperato usato, l'effetto finale è stato piuttosto soddisfacente e per fortuna sia la gonna che gli strati sottostanti non toccavano terra, così ho limitato i danni dovuti all'onnipresente fango!

The most incredible thing about this event was the high level of identification with the characters: it was really like living for two days in a different era with a different family (each family group had a chalet of their own and they lived together also during off game breaks) and different habits.
Another particular feature of this event (already tested during "Fortezza dei Vinti" another event organized by Terre Spezzate) is the presence of premade characters: instead of creating your own character, choosing personally name, background and skills, for these two events the organizers have provided a list of characters (like the cast of a movie or a theatrical play) to choose from, giving each one of them a brief scenario that also included relationships with the other characters, but still leaving a good margin for customization, in fact it's the player with his/her actions, who decides how his/her character will behave during the event and how his/her personal story will come to an end. For example, my character in this event was Gretchen Mayer, the village hypochondriac (I had fun like crazy inventing all those imaginary illnesses to avoid any productive activity XD), nephew of the mayor (my scenario provided several relatives including uncles, aunts and cousins) and, being always sick, devoted customer of the doctor and the herborist!
At first glance it may seem annoying having to adhere to your character's guidelines, but I think instead it's a good way to help both novice players that will so have some acting tips and ideas; and also give the opportunity to expert players to improve their acting skills, and maybe experiment with roles different from usual.

Another aspect of this event that I really liked was the process of costume creation: I've always loved Victorian fashion and I finally had the opportunity to make and wear nineteenth century clothes!
Being my character Gretchen always sad and sick, I preferred to avoid bright colors for her clothes, but I indulged a bit with elegant accessories, since she belongs to one of the most important families of Witzemburg.
I wanted to give a little more volume to the skirt, but I could not find in time a long economic crinoline, so in the end I layered a short lolita petticoat and a thrifted ankle long white eyelet skirt, the final effect is quite good and luckily both the skirt and the underlayers do not touch the ground, so I limited the damage caused by the omnipresent mud!

Sono molto soddisfatta del risultato finale, soprattutto perché anche questa volta sono riuscita a mantenermi entro un budget ridotto: la gonna grigia mi è costata solo 3 euro (ho trovato un banco che vendeva scampoli enormi a pochissimo al mercatino del mio paese), la cuffietta l'ho presa su Ebay con 8 euro (spedizione inclusa) e il medaglione l'ho preso a 6 euro approfittando degli ultimi saldi, mentre tutto il resto lo avevo già in casa :)

I'm very satisfied of the final result, especially because even this time I managed to keep a low budget for the whole outfits: the grey skirt cost me only 3 euros (I found some very big and cheap fabric cloth at a flea market), I purchased the bonnet on Ebay for 8 euros shipped and I found the locket during last sales (6 euros), while I found the other items at home :)

Dolls update: l'attacco dei cloni Blythe/ Attack of the Blythe Clones

L'altro giorno, con l'arrivo di un piccolo pachetto nella posta, la fine ha avuto inizio.
No, non ho ordinato un kit "Costruisciti la tua apocalisse, con piaga di rane inclusa nella confezione", perciò il mondo anche questa volta è salvo, ma il mio portafogli forse no.
Perchè quel pacchettino conteneva quello (anzi, quella) che dara inizio ad una mia nuova dipendenza da bambole: una Basaak, ovvero un clone Blythe.
Dato che una Blythe originale al momento è molto fuori dal mio budget, era già da qualche mese che meditavo di comprare un clone per provare a customizzarlo, ma ho sempre rimandato un pò per il prezzo (solitamente su Ebay i cloni Blythe si aggirano sui 30 euro), un pò perchè temevo che dal vivo quel capoccione lucido e gli occhi sgranati non mi sarebbero proprio piaciuti.
Ma, dopo molti dubbi e tentennamenti, poco prima di Natale ho deciso di farmi un piccolo autoregalo, approfittando di un nuovo rivenditore con prezzi più bassi.
Così, dopo 3 settimane di attesa, finalmente è arrivata Lucy (l'ho chiamata così da Lucy Lawless, perchè con i capelli neri, la frangetta e i chip degli occhi azzurro chiarissimo mi ricorda un pò Xena Principessa Guerriera):

The other day, with the arrival of a small package in the mail, the end has begun.
 No, I didn't bought a "Build your own apocalypse kit (with frog plague included in the box)", so the world is safe again, but my wallet may not be.
Because that little package contained what will start a new dolls addiction for me: a Basaak doll, a Blythe clone.
Since an original Blythe is way out of my current budget, it's been some months that I 'm considering buying a clone and try to customize it; but I was always unsecure because of the price ( usually Basaaks cost around 30euros/40 dollars on Ebay) and also because I feared that I would not have liked their big head and wide eyes.
But just before Chrismtas, after a lot of doubts and hesitations, I decided to make myself a little present, taking advantage of a new reseller with lower prices.
So, after 3 weeks of waiting, Lucy has finally arrived to me (I've called her Lucy after Lucy Lawless, because with her black bangs and light blue eyechips she reminds me of Xena the Warrior Princess):

Nonostante gli abiti orribili, sono rimasta piacevolmente impressionata dalla qualità della bambola: i capelli sono molto morbidi e la frangetta è tagliata piuttosto bene, il meccanismo degli occhi scatta senza problemi e non ha graffi ne macchie. Qui sotto potete vedere i colori dei quattro diversi chip occhi:

 Despite the awful clothes, I've been positively impressed by the doll's quality: her hair are soft and the bangs are cut quite nicely, the eye mechanism clicks smoothly and she has no stains nor scratches. Here you can see the different eye colours:

In un secondo momento ho notato che le ciglia dell'occhio destro e il fard sulle guance sono un pò storti, ma non è un gran problema visto che volevo comunque opacizzarla e rifarle il trucco.
Il corpo è molto simile a quello delle Skipper anni 90, ma un pò meno snodato:

 On a second look I've noticed that her cheek blush and left eye lashes are not straight, but it's not a big problem since I wanted to mattify her face and redo her makeup.
The body is very similar to 90's Skipper dolls, but a little less poseable:

Può ruotare la vita e alzare e allargare le braccia...

She can lift and spread out her arms and turn her waist...

...ma le gambe quasi non si piegano :-/ per ora la tengo così, ma se il trucco mi riesce bene credo che in futuro le trapianterò un corpo più snodato. 

Come dicevo prima il corpo è molto simile a quello delle vecchie Skipper, quindi sto avendo un pò di problemi a vestirla, poichè al momento ho solo abiti MH, Bratz e Hi-Glamm (quasi tutti troppo stretti o corti), appena torno dai miei darò un'occhiata tra le vecchie cose di Barbie...

 Oltre alla bambola, il venditore mi ha inviato in omaggio alcuni accessori: un abitino di ricambio (lo so, entrambi gli abiti sono decisamente bruttini, ma posso sempre cucirgliene di nuovi ;))

...but her legs are almost unbendable :-/  right now I'll keep her original body, but if I manage to give her a good face repaint, I'll probably give her a better and more articulated body.

As I said before, being her body similar to old Skipper dolls, I'm having a bit of trouble in dressing her, since I only have MH, Bratz and Hi-Glamm clothes right now (and they are almost all too tight or short), as soon as I go to my parent's, I'll try checking my old Barbie stuff...

Sono piuttosto soddisfatta di questo acquisto: nonostante alcuni piccoli difetti, la trovo molto carina e credo che con un minimo intervento di customizzazione (e abiti nuovi) possa diventare davvero una bella bambola!

Per quanto riguarda il trucco, mi sto ancora documentando su tecniche e materiali, ma l'altra sera, mentre guardavo il Dr Who (io e Dani stiamo in fissa col Dottore al momento XD), mi sono subito messa all'opera per crearle un abito più carino, che ve ne pare?

 I'm pretty satisfied with this purchase: despite some small flaws, I find her cute and I think that with a minimum customizing work (and new clothes) she can really be a beautiful doll!

Regarding makeup, I'm still collecting material about techniques and colours to use, but yesterday's evening, while watching Doctor Who (me and Dani are crazy for the Doctor right now XD), I put myself at work and created a cute new dress for her, what do you think?

E' un modello piuttosto semplice e veloce da realizzare, con corpetto e gonna fatti a uncinetto a punto alto e dettagli in pizzo di cotone. Al momento sto lavorando a un set invernale, sempre ad uncinetto, composto da cuffia e mantellina, rimanete sintonizzati per nuove foto ;)

 It's a quick and simple dress, with a crocheted bodice and skirt and some cortton lace details. Right now I'm working on a crocheted winter set, with matching hat and capelet, stay tuned for further pictures ;)

Dolls update: Skelita Calaveras

Negli ultimi mesi ho fatto la brava, a parte qualche ritrovamento fortunato a pochi euro nei mercatini, non ho comprato bambole (l'ultima è stata Jinafire Long, come autoregalo di compleanno a Marzo), ma la settimana scorsa quando ho trovato le Monster High Scaris deluxe in offerta "svuotascaffaliprimadiNatale" al Bennet non ho resistito e ho preso Skelita Calaveras (anche se in realtà alla fine me l'ha regalata Dani :)).
Per Skelita è stato subito amore, sin da quando vidi le prime foto promozionali, però quando finalmente arrivò nei negozi, decisi di scartarla dalla mia lista dei desideri: gli abiti, seppur carini non le stavano molto bene e i capelli erano tremendi, poco voluminosi e letteralmente incrostati di gel :-/
Però il character design della bambola continuava a piacermi quindi, avendone trovata una con dei capelli decenti a meno della metà del prezzo originale, mi sono decisa a prenderla lo stesso, con l'intenzione eventualmente di cambiarle look.


In these last months I was a good girl, except for a few cheap lucky finds in flea markets , I did not buy dolls (the last one was Jinafire Long as a birthday to myself in March), but last week when I found out that Monster High Scaris deluxe dolls where on "empty-the-shelves-for-Christmas" sale in Bennet supermarkets, I could not resist and purchased Skelita Calaveras (to tell the truth, in the end Dani bought her for me as a gift :)).
I fell in love with Skelita  ever since I saw the first promotional photos , but when she finally arrived in stores, I decided to reject her from my wishlist: her clothes were cute nut didn't really suit her and she had terrible hair, flat and literally caked with gel :-/ But I still liked the character design of this doll so, having found one with decent hair for less than half of the original price, I decided to buy her the same, with the intention of changing her outifit.

Per quanto riguarda gli abiti invece, continuano a non convincermi del tutto:

Here she is, after a strong brush-up her hair gained volume and lost the original greasiness. Regarding the clothes instead, I'm still not convinced entirely by them:

il problema principale, secondo me, è il top nero, che crea assieme ai capelli un'enorme macchia scura nella parte superiore della bambola e inoltre, essendo il corpo di Skelita modellato come uno scheletro (un'altro punto a suo favore, trovo che sia un mold molto ben fatto e originale, anche se un pò fragile), le casca un pò addosso facendo uno strano effetto pigiamino. (nota: sotto al top c'è un pezzo di plastica trasparente modellato sul busto standard MH che serve a dare una forma migliore agli abiti, che altrimenti cadrebbero male sul corpo ossuto di Skelita, ma in questo caso serve a poco...)
Per quanto riguarda gonna, scarpe e collana invece niente da dire, li trovo molto carini ed azzeccati per il suo stile.
Uno dei motivi principali per cui ci tenevo ad averla nella mia collezione è il viso: mi piace molto il suo trucco ispirato ai teschi messicani del Dia de los Muertos.

the main problem, in my opinion, is the black top, that creates along with the hair a huge dark spot in the upper part of the doll and also, being the body of Skelita modeled as a skeleton (another point in her favor, I find that this mold is very original and well done, even if a bit fragile), the top is a bit baggy on her, making a strange "pajama" effect. (Note: under the top there is a piece of transparent plastic modeled on standard MH torso, which serves to give a better shape to the clothes, preventing them to look bad on Skelita's bony body, but in this case it isn't very helpful ...) 

Instead I have nothing to say about the skirt, shoes and necklace, I find them very nice and well-chosen for her style. 

One of the main reasons why I wanted to add Skelita to my collection is her face: I really like her makeup inspired by Dia de los Muertos skulls.

Insomma, visto il forte sconto, sono più che soddisfatta di averla presa, alla fine gli abiti gieli posso sempre cambiare e i capelli, una volta pettinati non sono poi così male; l'unico vero difetto di Skelita, come dicevo prima, è la fragilità del corpo: gli arti scheletrici sono un pò gommosi e flessibili, mentre le giunture sono piuttosto rigide, quindi mettendola in posa ho sempre paura di rompere qualche perno...
Tornando agli abiti invece, non ho ancora avuto tempo di cucirle qualcosa su misura, però ho fatto qualche prova con altri abiti MH e devo dire che cambiandole la maglia (con quella del Create a Monster Drago) e aggiungendo borsa e fascia per capelli (di Operetta Dance Class), già vedo un miglioramento.


So, considering the big discount, I'm really satisfied of this doll, in the end I can always change her clothes and the hair, once brushed, aren't so bad; the  only real flaw of Skelita, as I said before, it's the fragility of her body: the skeletal limbs are a bit rubbery and flexible, while the joints are rather stiff, so when posing the doll I'm always afraid to break some peg...
Returning to the clothes instead, I still haven't found the time to sew her something new, but I did some test with other MH clothes and I must say that just by changing her top (with the one from the Create a Monster Dragon) and adding a bag and hair band (from Dance Class Operetta), I can already see an improvement.

Per lei ho in mente un guardaroba coloratissimo e floreale, ispirato ai ritratti di Frida Kahlo, non vedo l'ora di mettermi a cucire :)

Dolls update: una Blythe recuperata/ Dolls update: a salvaged Blythe

Qualche tempo fa sono andata con gli amici al Balon, il famoso mercato delle pulci di Torino (se capitate in città di sabato o domenica mattina vi consiglio di farci un giro, ne vale davvero la pena) e, mentre giravo tra i vari banchi qualcosa ha attirato la mia attenzione...
Uno degli espositori aveva uno scatolone pieno di piccole cianfrusaglie e per 1 euro se ne potevano scegliere 5. Ed è proprio in mezzo a quel mare di sorpresine Kinder, cristalli di lampadario e piccoli soprammobili che ho visto spuntare la faccina con gli occhioni sgranati di una Blythe Littlest Pet Shop!

A while ago I went with my friends to the Balon, the biggest and most famous flea market of Turin (if you happen to be in town on a Saturday or Sunday morning, I recommend you to go see it, it is really worth a visit) and, as I walked among the various selling stands, something caught my attention ...
One of the exhibitors had a box full of little odds and ends and for 1 euros you could choose 5 of them. And it is in the midst of this sea of ​​Kinder surprises, crystal chandelier drops and small trinkets that I saw the smiley face with adorable eyes of a Blythe Littlest Pet Shop!

Era la bambola contenuta nel set deluxe "Bunny Duo", ancora in buone condizioni (ma credo sia stata giocata parecchio perché le giunture sono abbastanza molli), senza accessori ma con almeno il suo vestitino originale.

Ho rovistato un pò nello scatolone per vedere se riuscivo a trovare qualche altro accessorio del set, ma non ho avuto fortuna: alla fine ho scelto altri 4 oggettini per completare l'offerta e me la sono portata a casa. Per la cronaca gli altri "prescelti" sono stati 2 Kombattini (su nostalgica richiesta di Dani), un bicchierino da sakè verde e rosa che diventerà un vaso da fiori per Monster High e una piccola anfora di legno dipinta malissimo, che con una mano di acrilici diventerà un altro soprammobile taglia MH.

Come dicevo sopra la bambolina non aveva macchie né difetti (a parte dei capelli piuttosto punk che non sono riuscita a domare del tutto nemmeno lavandoli...) però era scalza e senza cappello coniglioso, così per non farla sfigurare rispetto alle altre mini Blythe della mia collezione, mi sono subito data da fare per rimediare. Ho escluso subito la ricerca dei suoi accessori originali sul web perché hanno prezzi assurdi (seriamente, 6 euro per le scarpine e 14 per il piedistallo, ma siamo matti?!?) e ho deciso di cucire io il cappellino con del feltro che avevo in casa e cercarle delle scarpine Polly Pocket (la nuova Polly con i vestiti gommosi, non quella anni novanta con le mini casette) che calzano quasi perfettamente anche alle Blythe LPS e Petite (2 euro 4 paia di scarpe, non c'è paragone sul prezzo).

Ed ecco il risultato finale:

It was the doll contained in the deluxe set "Bunny Duo" , still in good condition ( but I think it was played a lot because her joints are quite soft ), without accessories but at least with the original dress.

I searched in the box for her accessories, but I had no luck : in the end I chose 4 other trinkets to complete the offer and I brought her home. Just for the record, the other "chosen ones" were 2 Kombattini (Army Ants)(nostalgically requested by Dani), a green and pink sake glass which will become a flower pot for Monster High and a very badly painted small amphora that, once repainted, will become another MH home decor.

As I said above the doll had no stains or flaws (apart from slightly punkish hair, that not even a shower could tame completely...), however she was barefoot and without her bunny hat, so to make her look pretty as the other little Blythes of my collection, I tried to fix this problem with a bit of creativity and craftiness. 

I immediately discarded the idea of searching her original accessories on the net, because they have absurd prices (seriously , 6 euro for the shoes and 14 for the pedestal, are we crazy?!?), and I decided to sew the hat with some white felt I had at home and look for some Polly Pocket shoes (the new Polly with gummy clothes, not the original 90's one) that fit almost perfectly to LPS and Petite Blythes (4 pairs of shoes for just 2€ , there is no comparison on the price ).

And here's the final result:

Non sono completamente soddisfatta del cappellino perché il feltro essendo rigido gli dà una forma un pò strana, ma considerando che è la prima volta che lavoro su un pezzo così piccolo non è uscito poi così male.

I'm not completely satisfied with the hat because the stiffness of the felt give it an odd shape, but considering it's the first time I work on a piece so small, it did not come out so bad.

Ecco invece le scarpine di Polly Pocket, oltre a queste ho recuperato anche un paio di anfibi neri e due paia di sandali, uno arancione e uno rosa glitterato. Queste sono quelle che si intonavano di più al vestitino, peccato che i dettagli argento siano un pò sbavati (però contate anche che queste foto le ho fatte con un obiettivo macro, a occhio nudo si nota molto meno ^_^).

Here we have the Polly Pocket shoes, in addition to these I also got a pair of black combat boots and two pairs of sandals, one in orange and one in pink with glitter. These green sneakers were the best match for her dress, too bad that the silver details are a bit smudged (however consider that these photos were taken with a macro lens, to the naked eye it is less noticeable ^_^).

In conclusione sono decisamente soddisfatta di questo acquisto e mi sono pure divertita a cercare e creare degli accessori alternativi!

In the end I'm very satisfied of this purchase and I also had fun searching and sewing some alternative accessories!

Kristine Ann's pattern review and a little MH photoshoot/ Recensione pattern di Kristine Ann's e un piccolo servizio fotografico MH

Qualche mese fa ho vinto un giveaway organizzato da Kristine Ann, una bravissima sarta che realizza degli abiti per bambole davvero adorabili e dei cartamodelli per realizzarli molto facili da usare (potete trovarli nel suo negozio Etsy).

Il premio consisteva in quattro set di cartamodelli per Monster High (si potevano scegliere anche per Blythe, ma le uniche Blythe che ho sono le minuscole Littlest Pet Shop...) più un bell'assortimento di ritagli di stoffa, nastri e passamanerie varie per realizzare gli abitini.

A few months ago I won a giveaway organized by Kristine Ann, a talented seamstress who makes adorable clothes for dolls and clothes patterns very easy to use (you can find them in her Etsy shop).
The prize consisted of four pattern sets for Monster High (you could also choose Blythe patterns, but I don't have any Blythe doll except for the tiny Littlest Pet Shop ones...) plus a fine assortment of fabric oddments, ribbons and trimmings to create clothes.

Finora non avevo mai utilizzato dei veri e propri cartamodelli per le mie creazioni, mi limitavo a prendere le misure della bambola e a disegnare direttamente sulla stoffa i pezzi da ritagliare, ma con i pattern di Kristine Ann è tutta un'altra storia! Non solo abbattono sensibilmente i tempi di fabbricazione (basta ritagliare il modello desiderato, ricalcarne i contorni sulla stoffa e cucire dove indicato), ma sono molto facili da usare anche per una sarta principiante come me e hanno una vestibilità perfetta. Inoltre sono estremamente personalizzabili: oltre ai modelli proposti nelle foto, Kristine Ann spiega come mixare le varie parti (gonne, top, maniche...) per creare una gran varietà di abiti diversi.
Purtroppo non ho potuto mettermi subito al lavoro con i cartamodelli perché sono stata parecchio impegnata con l'università, ma finalmente qualche settimana fa ho terminato un abito, realizzato con gli schemi di questo set.

Until now I had never used actual patterns for my creations, I just used to take the measurements of the doll and draw directly on the fabric the pieces to cut, but with Kristine Ann's patterns it's a whole other story! Not only they significantly cut down production time (you just have to cut the desired pattern, trace the outlines on the fabric and sew where indicated), but they are very easy to use even for a beginner seamstress like me and have a perfect fit. They are also highly customizable: in addition to the styles proposed in the pictures, Kristine Ann explains how to mix the various parts (skirts, tops, sleeves ...) to create a variety of different outfits.
Unfortunately I could not put myself to work immediately because I've been quite busy with university, but finally a few weeks ago I finished a dress created using  patterns from this set.

 Il modello è molto semplice, un prendisole senza spalline con cintura alta in vita, ma trovo che sia comunque d'effetto con i giusti accessori :) (borsa e cappello li ho fatti ad uncinetto senza schema, mentre scarpe e gioielli sono rispettivamente di Abbey I love fashion e Lagoona Skull shores) per l'occasione ho realizzato un piccolo servizio fotografico con Lagoona in giardino, ecco le mie foto preferite del set:

It is a very simple style, a strapless sundress with a high waist belt, but I find it still og great effect with the right accessories :) (I crocheted the bag and the hat without following a pattern, while shoes and jewelry are respectively from Abbey I love fashion and Lagoona Skull shores) for the occasion I created a small photoshoot with Lagoona in the garden, here are my favorite pictures from the set:

(In origine l'abito doveva essere per Spectra, ma dato che al momento ce l'ho esposta con un outfit piuttosto complicato, ho usato Lagoona come modella mentre cucivo e alla fine...se l'è tenuto lei XD)

(Originally the dress was supposed to be for Spectra, but since at the moment she's on display with a rather elaborated outfit, I used Lagoona as a model while I was sewing and at the end ... if she kept the dress for herself XD)

Coconut love

Non so se ve l'ho già detto oppure no, ma io ADORO il cocco, sia per il sapore che per il profumo, e oggi voglio condividere con voi alcuni dei miei prodotti "coccosi" preferiti :)

I don't know if I've already told  you or not, but I LOVE coconut, both its taste and its smell, and today I want to share with you some of my favourite coconut flavoured products :)

- Succo Cocco e Ananas Rauch Bravo Premium/ Coconut and Pineapple Juice by Rauch Bravo Premium

Ovviamente uno dei miei cocktail preferiti è la Pina Colada, ma dato che in generale non amo molto l'alcool, preferisco ordinare, quando è possibile, la sua versione analcolica, che è praticamente succo d'ananas e cocco. Succo che al di fuori dei locali non è facilissimo da reperire, però già da qualche anno nei supermercati abbastanza forniti si possono trovare i succhi ananas e cocco della Rauch (tra l'altro questa marca fa un sacco di succhi buonissimi, mi piacciono molto anche quelli al mango e alla mela verde). Ho provato anche la versione in bottiglia di plastica della stessa marca, ma questa versione in cartone è molto più buona, la "sorella" in bottiglia è un pò troppo zuccherosa e stucchevole, mentre questa, secondo me, ha il giusto equilibrio di sapori.

Obviously one of my favorite cocktails is Pina Colada, but since I don't love alcoholics in general, I prefer to order, when possible, its non-alcoholic version, which is pretty much pineapple and coconut juice. This flavour of juice is not easy to find, but in the last few years it made its appearance in a lot of big supermarkets under the German brand Rauch (among other things this brand produces a lot of delicious juices, I like mango and green apple ones too). I also tried plastic bottled version of this juice by the same brand, but I like the carton version more: its "sister" in the bottle is too sugary and cloying, while the carton one, in my opinion, has the right balance of flavors.

- Dolcetti al cocco/ Coconut meringues

Questi dolcetti morbidi (a volte li chiamano anche "meringhe al cocco") sono facilissimi, veloci ed economici da preparare, inoltre ho notato che di solito piacciono molto serviti col caffè anche a chi non ama il cocco, perciò sono perfetti se volete fare un figurone a una cena ma avete poco tempo a disposizione. 

Sul web si trovano mille ricette più o meno simili, io ho provato questa (che è pure senza glutine) e posso assicurarvi che sono spariti in un batter d'occhio ;) Biscotti morbidi al cocco

Se invece non avete proprio tempo o voglia di cucinare di solito si trovano già confezionati e a buon prezzo in quasi tutti i supermercati (non ho in mente una marca particolare perché ce ne sono tantissime e di solito sono tutte abbastanza buone)

These soft cookies are very easy, fast and cheap to make, and usually they are appreciated even by people who don't love coconut (try serving them with coffee), so they are perfect if you want to make a great impression at a dinner party but have little time for cooking.

On the web there are thousands of recipes more or less similar, I have tried this (which is also gluten-free) and I can assure you that they were gone in a blink of an eye ;) coconut meringues

If you don't have time or don't like cooking, they are easy to find at affordable prices in most supermarkets (I don't have a particular brand in mind, because there are so many and they are usually all pretty good)

- Cioccolato bianco con cocco e al latte con meringhe al cocco Ritter Sport/ White chocolate with coconut and milk chocolate with coconut meringues by Ritter Sport

Potrei mangiare questi due tipi di cioccolato fino a scoppiare, sono favolosi *_* il primo si trova tranquillamente in ogni supermercato un pò grande, mente il secondo ahimè era un'edizione speciale natalizia, e non sono nemmeno sicura di averlo visto qui in Italia, infatti io l'ho scoperto (e ne ho fatto scorta, con la scusa del souvenir per mamma che adora il cioccolato come me XD) quando ero a Berlino, chissà se il prossimo Natale arriverà anche da noi...

I can never have enough of these two types of chocolate, they're fabulous *_* The first is easy to find in every supermarket, but the second, sadly, was a special edition for Christmas, and I'm not even sure it arrived here in Italy, in fact I found it (and stocked it up with the excuse of a souvenir for mom who loves chocolate like me XD) when I was in Berlin, I wonder if the next Christmas it will be sold even here...

- Crema spalmabile al cocco Lidl Deluxe/ Coconut spread by Lidl Deluxe

Altro prodotto in edizione limitata (peeerchèèèè?!?) che adoro, è comparsa al Lidl nel periodo di Pasqua ed è letteralmente andata a ruba: qui da me è finita nel giro di due giorni e non l'hanno più rimessa. L'unico glorioso vasetto che sono riuscita ad accaparrarmi rimarrà sempre nel mio cuore...

Come dicevo prima, per me il cocco non è solo una delizia da gustare ma anche un profumo paradisiaco, eccovi quindi un paio di prodotti di bellezza all'aroma di cocco che ho apprezzato particolarmente:

Another limited edition product (whyyyyy?!?) I love. It was sold at Lidl over the Easter period, but it literally disappeared  within two days and never came back on shelves. The only glorious jar that I was able to catch will always remain in my heart...

As I said before, for me, coconut is not only a delight to taste but also a heavenly scent, so here are a few coconut scented beauty products that I particularly appreciated:

- Balsamo al cocco Jacklon/ Coconut hair conditioner by Jacklon

Ho scoperto questo balsamo per caso in un minuscolo discount dove non vado quasi mai e me ne sono innamorata! Non solo ha un profumo buonissimo (ho provato altre marche di shampoo o balsami al cocco e di solito profumano poco o hanno uno strano odore chimico, questo invece sembra più naturale), ma mi lascia i capelli morbidissimi e lisci quasi come se li avessi piastrati! Inoltre è decisamente economico: il flacone da 500ml costa circa 1.20€. L'unica pecca è che, almeno nella mia zona, non si trova dappertutto, finora l'ho trovato solo alla Ekom e alla Coop.

I discovered this conditioner by chance in a tiny discount where I rarely go and I immediately fell in love with it! Not only has a good fragrance (I have tried other brands of coconut shampoos and conditioners and they usually have a strange chemical smell, however this seems more natural), but it alsomake my hair soft and smooth as if they're plated ! It is also very cheap: the 500ml bottle costs about 1.20 €. The only flaw is that, at least in my area, it's difficult to find, so far I've only found it at Ekom and Coop.

- Acqua profumata Cocco e Cannella "La voglia matta" Perlier/ Coconut and Cinnamon scented water by "La voglia matta" Perlier

Trovo che le acque profumate di questa linea della Perlier siano un buon compromesso tra profumo e semplice deodorante: infatti restano addosso abbastanza a lungo senza creare l'effetto "nuvola di profumo" poiché hanno un'intensità piuttosto discreta che non ammazza chi ti sta intorno. Il prezzo è abbastanza buono, il flacone costa circa 9€ ma dura tantissimo perché ne basta una spruzzata per volta. Ho provato questo al cocco e cannella tempo fa e mi è piaciuto molto, profumavo come una torta XD un'altra fragranza di questa linea che mi è piaciuta (e sto usando ancora adesso) è lampone e legno di rosa.

I find that this line of scented waters by Perlier are a good compromise between perfume and simple deodorant: in fact the scent remain on body long enough without creating the effect of  a "cloud of perfume" because it is rather discreet that does not kill those around you . The price is quite good, a bottle costs about € 9, but it lasts a lot because you need only a single splash at a time. I tried this one with coconut and cinnamon a while ago and I liked it a lot, I smelled like a cake XD another fragrance of this line that I like (and I'm still using now) is raspberry and rose wood.

- Bagnoschiuma Malizia al cocco/ Coconut bath foam by Malizia

Anche questo si trova abbastanza facilmente e a prezzi ragionevoli (sui 2-3€ il flacone da 1000ml) nei supermercati. Lo preferisco rispetto ad altri bagnoschiuma al cocco perché il profumo, come sopra, è più naturale e poi dura tantissimo dopo la doccia :)

Again, this is quite easy to find at reasonably prices (about 2-3€) in supermarkets. I prefer it over other coconut bath foams because the scent, as above, is more natural and it lasts a lot after the shower :)
