La mia collezione di Barbie 1a parte/ My Barbie collection part 1

Questa settimana sono tornata dai miei per alcuni giorni e, per ingannare il tempo nelle pause dallo studio, ho deciso di iniziare un progetto su cui meditavo da tempo: riportare alla luce e catalogare le Barbie di quando ero bambina.
Al momento la mia collezione si trova in due grossi scatoloni nel ripostiglio di mia madre, una per le bambole (lavate e pettinate accuratamente prima di riporle) e gli accessori (divisi per categorie in varie scatole del gelato...sì, mia madre è molto scrupolosa nel fare ordine ^^), e una per i vestiti (anch'essi lavati per bene e riparati dove serviva) più diverse altre scatole per case e playset vari. Se avessi più spazio in casa mi piacerebbe tenerle esposte, ma dato che per il momento il problema non ha soluzioni, per ora vi mostrerò solo le foto stock prese da internet (già solo questa ricerca mi ha occupato una intera giornata...ma quando avrò più tempo rivestirò le mie e scatterò qualche foto...), in particolare oggi mi occuperò delle bambole Barbie, più fidanzati, amiche e sorelle, dei playset e delle altre bambole Mattel che possiedo parlerò più avanti in altri post.
Posso ritenermi una (ex) bambina fortunata per quanto riguarda le Barbie perché pur non navigando nell'oro i miei genitori e parenti hanno sempre assecondato questa mia passione, complici soprattutto mia madre che, avendone avuta solo una da bambina ha sempre desiderato collezionarle, e la vicinanza dello spaccio Mattel di Oleggio Castello (ormai chiuso), molto ben fornito e con sconti vantaggiosi.
Non so se la mia si possa definire una vera e propria collezione, dato che tutte le bambole sono state deboxate e usate parecchio, ma sono sempre stata molto attenta e ordinata con i miei giocattoli, infatti le bambole sono tutte in buone condizioni con ancora i loro abiti e accessori (in alcuni casi non ho nemmeno disfatto l'acconciatura originale), al massimo manca qualche piccolo accessorio rotto o smarrito con il passare degli anni, ma sono casi abbastanza rari.
Vi presento quindi il frutto, in ordine cronologico, delle mie ricerche nel web, con qualche aneddoto e curiosità legate ai miei ricordi (i nomi e le date si riferiscono all'edizione americana) (voglio anche avvisarvi che sarà un post piutto sto lungo e pieno di foto...).

This week I came back to my parents for a few days and, to pass time during study breaks, I decided to start a project on which I pondered for some time: recover and catalog all the Barbie dolls of my childhood
At the moment my collection is housed in two large boxes in my mother's storage closet, one for the dolls (washed and combed thoroughly before storing) and accessories (categorized in various ice cream boxes... yes, my mother is very scrupulous in making order ^ ^), and one for the clothes (also washed well and repaired where needed) plus several other boxes for the various houses and playsets. If I had more space in my house I'd like to keep them on display, but since the problem has currently no solution, for now I will show you just the stock pictures taken from the web (only this research took me a whole day ... but when I'll have more time I'll dress up mines and take some pictures), in particular today I'll talk about Barbie dolls plus boyfriends, firends and sisters; later in other posts I'll show you the playsets and other Mattel dolls that I own.
I can consider myself a (former) lucky girl regarding Barbie dolls because, although not swimming in gold, my parents and family have always supported my passion, especially with the help of my mother, who always wanted to collect them (as a child she had only one Barbie), and the proximity of the Mattel factory outlet of Oleggio Castello (now closed), well stocked and with great discounts.
I do not know if I can define mine a real collection, since all the dolls are unboxed and used a lot, but I've always been very careful and neat with my toys, in fact the dolls are all in good condition with still their clothes and accessories (in some cases I have not even undone their original hairstyle), at most a few small accessories are missing, broken or lost within the years, but these cases are quite rare.
I then present you the result, in chronological order, of my web researches, with some stories and curiosities from my memories (names and dates refer to the American edition) (I also want to warn you that this is going be a looooong post full of pictures...)

Partiamo dal lontano 1973, quando io non ero ancora nata, ma mia madre stava tenendo da parte la sua paghetta per comprarsi la sua prima Barbie! (mamma sostiene che la sua aveva il costumino azzurro, ma pare che solo la versione canadese l'avesse di quel colore, mistero...). Essendo appartenuta a mia madre, secondo la mia logica di bambina, doveva essere la madre di Barbie, e nessuno si è mai chiesto come mai dimostrasse la stessa età della figlia XD

Let's start in 1973, when I was not yet born, but my mother was saving her pocket money to buy her first Barbie! (mom says that hers had a blue swimsuit, but apparently only in the Canadian version was blue, that's a mystery...). Since this doll belonged to my mother, according to my child logic, she had to be Barbie's mom, and no one of her friends ever asked why she looked the same age as her daughter XD

Sempre dagli anni 70 arriva Barbie Malibu, ereditata nuda e zoppa (aveva il meccanismo di un ginocchio rotto) da una lontana cugina.

Also from the 70s comes Malibu Barbie, inherited naked and crippled (she had a broken knee mechanism) from a distant cousin.

Il mio primo Ken! Vorrei sottolineare che, mentre Barbie si cambiava d'abito ogni 10 secondi e aveva vestiti per ogni occasione, quest'uomo ha vissuto anni indossando sempre il suo "virilissimo" completino da pattinatore, per qualsiasi evento: matrimoni, campeggio, gite al mare...c'è voluto fin quasi a metà anni 90 per riuscire a trovare (almeno qui in Italia) i fashion pack di Ken!
Un'altro dettaglio che ho sempre trovato ridicolo dei vecchi Ken come questo è che avevano i mutandoni a vita alta da anziano prestampati sul corpo XD


My first Ken! I would like to point out that while Barbie changed clothes every 10 seconds and had something  for every occasion, this man has lived through years always wearing his "extremely manly" skater costume, for any event: weddings, camping, beach trips...Ken fashion packs arrived in Italy only in the mid-90s!
Another detail of the old Ken dolls that I have always found funny was the high-waisted old man underwear printed directly on the body XD

Di questa mi manca il costume da bagno e il fermacapelli rosa. Sono pronta a giurare che il costume è ancora da qualche parte a casa di mia nonna, ricordo che lo persi d'estate dopo una festa in piscina (di Barbie la piscina, non di mia nonna purtroppo ^^).

I miss the swimsuit and hair clips of this one. I can swear that the swimsuit is still somewhere in my grandmother's house, I remember that I lost it in summer, after a pool party (Barbie's pool, grandma didn't have a human sized one sadly ^^).

Non sono del tutto sicura che la mia sia lo stesso modello di quella in foto, ma non sono riuscita a trovare foto della mia versione, che è leggermente diversa: gli orecchini sono dei semplici cerchi (senza il triangolo in rilievo), l'abito è senza spalline, la gonna è di jeans con solo una balza finale in tulle e sullo scollo ha un fiocco di tulle con una gemma al centro.

I'm not entirely sure that mine is the same model as the one pictured, but I could not find any image of my version, which is slightly different: the earrings are simple circles (without the triangle), the dress is strapless, the skirt is made of jeans with just a final tulle ruffle on the hem and on the neckline it has a tulle bow with a gem in the center.

My first Skipper! She, unlike Ken had more luck with clothes: I received her along with a fashion pack and she could also wear her sister's clothes, try doing the same with Ken!

My first Christie! I still have all the clothes and accessories, but the head has been repaired with tape, after a child who shared the hospital room with me when I removed tonsils, used her as a hammer!

Avete presente quell'episodio dei Simpson, in cui Lisa si scaglia contro la bambola Malibu Stacie parlante, perché dice solo fesserie (tipo: "Pensare troppo fa venire le rughe")? Ecco, non è che questa qui avesse degli argomenti di conversazione molto più profondi...posso ancora citare a memoria (imitando anche il tono di voce) le sue frasi:

"Mi piace fare shopping!"

"Mi pettini?"

"Prendiamo la macchina, andiamo alla festa!"

"Dì alla mamma che usciamo."

"Telefoniamo alle nostre amiche!"

Comunque, nonostante lo scarso spessore intellettuale (che le riconoscevo già da bambina), mi è sempre piaciuta molto per il colore insolito dei capelli e per i dettagli del suo look, mi piacevano soprattutto il suo cappello, la giacchina e gli orecchini a forma di rosellina.

Do you remember that episode of The Simpsons, where Lisa protests against the doll Malibu Stacie because she only talk nonsense (like: "Thinking gives wrinkles")? Well, this Barbie's topics of conversation aren't much more profound ... I can still quote from memory (even imitating the voice tone) her sentences:

"I love shopping!"

"Can you comb my hair?"

"Let's take the car and go to the party!"

"Tell Mom that we go out."

"Let's call our friends!"

However, despite the lack of intellectual depth (which I recognized even as a child), I have always liked the unusual color of her hair and the details of her look, I especially enjoyed her hat, jacket and rose shaped earrings.

La mia seconda (e ultima) Christie, per distinguerla dall'altra, l'avevo chiamata Maya e facevo finta che era sua cugina che abitava alle Hawaii. A differenza di sua cugina, lei non ha avuto incidenti con piccoli barbari.

My second (and last) Christie, to distinguish her from the other, I called her Maya and pretended that she was Christie's cousin who lived in Hawaii. Unlike her cousin, she didn't had accidents with little barbarians.

Il mio secondo (e ultimo) Ken. Avendo anche lui un clone come Maya,  lo avevo rinominato Mike. Ed era (logicamente, visto che appartenevano alla stessa serie e me li hanno regalati insieme) il marito hawaiiano di Maya.

My second (and last) Ken. Since he had a clone, like Maya, I renamed him Mike. And it was (of course, as he belonged to the same series and I received them together) Maya's Hawaiian husband.

La mia Barbie preferita in assoluto! Adoravo le sirene e adoravo i suoi capelli lilla con la ciocca che diventava rosa con l'acqua calda. L'avevo chiamata Violet (che fantasia...) e ci ho giocato tantissimo!

My favorite Barbie ever! I loved sirens and I loved her purple hair with a lock that turned pink with hot water. I called her (fancy that!) Violet and I've played a lot with her!

Ha ancora abiti e accessori originali (inclusa l'extension), ma i capelli le arrivano solo fino ai fianchi perché la mia migliore amica dell'epoca (con la mania per i tagli estremi alle bambole) glieli ha tagliati senza la mia autorizzazione, per fortuna sono riuscita a fermarla prima che la rapasse a zero.

She still has her clothes and original accessories (including the extension), but her hair now just come up to her hips, because my best friend at the time (who loved extreme haircuts for dolls) gave her a cut without my permission. At least I was able to stop her before she completely shaved the doll.

My first (and only) Stacie! She was also in the Olympus of my favorites because it was very bendable and she did gymnastics just like me!

La mia prima (e unica) Midge! Un'altra delle mie preferite, nonostante i piedoni piatti a forma di scarpone da sci che le impedivano di indossare qualunque altra scarpa. Essendo snodata, era l'unica delle mie Barbie (ad eccezione di Stacie) che poteva andare a cavallo decentemente, quindi la usavo spesso come eroina di avventure fantasy dalle trame incasinatissime (nel Medioevo si viaggiava a cavallo, quindi chi meglio di lei poteva interpretare la guerriera errante, con spada e armatura rubate a Febo del Gobbo di Notre Dame?!?!) E qui si capisce anche come sono finita oggi a fare larp...

My first (and only) Midge! Another one of my favorites, despite the big flat feet shaped lik a sky boot that prevented her to wear any other shoe. Being articulated, she was the only one of my Barbies (except Stacie) that could ride a horse decently, so she was often the heroine of fantasy adventures with extremely complex plots. In Middle Age people travelled on horseback, then who better than she could perform the wandering female warrior (with sword and armor stolen from Phoebus doll from the Hunchback of Notre Dame)?!? And here we can also understand how I ended up doing larp...

Nonostante ne avessi 4 diverse(di cui una versione Teen), Skipper non ha mai assunto multiple identità, semplicemente usavo di volta in volta quella che mi sembrava più adatta alla storia che avevo in mente.

Although I had 4 different Skipper dolls (including one Teen version), she has never taken multiple identities, I just used the one that seemed more suited to the story I had in mind from time to time.

Di questa ne avevo 3, tutte ricevute in dono nello stesso compleanno dai miei tre migliori amici delle elementari (era il modello più economico in commercio ed essendo maschi, i miei amici non se ne intendevano di regali da bambina...però potevano almeno mettersi d'accordo XD). Per ovviare al problema decisi che erano 3 gemelle identiche!

I had 3 of this, all received as a gift for the same birthday from my three best male friends in primary school (it was the cheapest model on the market and being boys, my friends didn't know what presents girls like... but they could at least have asked each other first XD). To solve the problem I decided that thedolls were 3  identical twins!

Dolls update: Blythe Littlest Pet Shop Desert Fun

Oggi voglio presentarvi una nuova rubrica che intendo introdurre in maniera più o meno regolare (dipenderà dalle mie finanze ^^) qui sul blog: Dolls Update, ovvero una piccola recensione dei miei nuovi acquisti bambolosi.
La protagonista di oggi è la mini cowgirl contenuta nel set Blythe Littlest Pet Shop Desert Fun. Chi mi segue da un pò forse ricorderà la mia recensione del set LPS Buckles and Bows (ricevuto come premio di un giveaway), già allora queste versioni economiche delle Blythe mi erano piaciute e ne avrei volentieri comprate altre, peccato che qui in Italia sembravano essere completamente scomparse dai negozi. Questo fino a ieri, quando facendo la spesa in un piccolo supermercato dove vado raramente, mi sono trovata davanti a diverse piacevoli sorprese: prima di tutto nel minuscolo reparto giocattoli avevano fatto la loro comparsa alcune Monster High (solo qualche Scaris della linea economica, ma fa sempre piacere trovarle in nuovi posti e a buon prezzo), poi un pò più in basso ho notato diversi set Littlest Pet Shop, sia quelli "deluxe" (della differenza tra set economici e deluxe parlerò più avanti nella recensione...) che quelli normali, questi ultimi poi erano pure scontati a 5€ (mi pare di ricordare che qui in Italia il prezzo pieno fosse sugli 7-8€), quindi non ho saputo resistere e alla fine me ne sono portata una a casa! Eccola qui:

Today I want to present you a new column that I will introduce quite regularly (it depends on my finances ^^) here on the blog: Dolls Update, small reviews of my newest dolly purchases.
Today's guest is the mini cowgirl of Blythe Littlest Pet Shop Desert Fun set. Those who are following me for a while may remember my review of the LPS set Buckles and Bows (received as a giveaway prize), I instantly liked these cheap versions of Blythe dolls, and I would have bought more, too bad that here in Italy they seemed to be completely disappeared from the shops. This until yesterday, while shopping in a small supermarket where I rarely go, I found myself in front of some pleasant surprises: first of all in the tiny toy departement had mede their appearance some Monster High dolls (just some Scaris from the cheap line, but it's always nice to find them in new spots and at good prices), then a little further down I noticed several LPS sets, both basic and "deluxe" ones (I will write more about the differences between "deluxe" and baic sets later in this article...).
The basic sets were also discounted at 5€ (here in Italy the full price is about € 7-8) so I could not resist and at the end I brought one home with me! Here she is:

Come potete vedere i capelli sono molto più voluminosi rispetto alla foto di stock, ma io la preferisco così, anche perché appena uscita dalla scatola li aveva terribilmente spiaccicati (e anche un pò incollati...) ma è bastato darle una pettinata per sistemarla. Nella confezione, oltre alla bambola c'è un piccolo piedistallo, un pettinino, una borsa graziosa ma un pò troppo grandicella per la bambola e una cartolina che la ritrae nel deserto assieme al suo cucciolo serpente (non incluso).

As you can see her hair are much more voluminous than in the stock photos, but I prefer them that way, because at first when I took the doll out of the box, they were terribly squashed (and a bit glued...), but she just needed a good comb to fix the problem. In the package,besides the doll, there is a small stand, a haircomb, a pretty (but a little too big for the doll) bag and a postcard that shows her in the desert together with his pet snake (not included).

Ed è proprio l'assenza dell'animaletto (e di un paio di accessori extra) che giustifica il prezzo ridotto: infatti al negozio, oltre ai set base, ce n'erano anche alcuni "deluxe", tra cui Look-a-like Ladybugs, che avrei voluto prendere, non fosse che costava 15€! Onestamente, secondo la mia modesta opinione di collezionista adulta, a cui non frega niente dell'animaletto ma vuole solo la bambola, far pagare il doppio i set deluxe solo per la bestiolina di plastica ed un minuscolo accessorio extra è assurdo! (E anche un pò fastidioso visto che ne ho adocchiati almeno tre che vorrei...)
Ma torniamo a noi...trovo che la bambolina sia davvero graziosa, ciò che mi piace di più sono i camperos in miniatura che indossa e gli occhioni azzurri (sì, ho un debole per le bambole con gli occhi "veri", non solamente dipinti)


And it is precisely the absence of the little animal (and a few extras), which justifies the lower price: in fact, at the store there were also some "deluxe" set , including Look-a-like Ladybugs, that I wanted to get, but it costed € 15! Honestly, in my humble opinion as an adult collector, who does not give a damn of the pet but just wants the doll, paying double price the deluxe setjust  for the little plastic animal and a tiny extra accessory is absurd! (And a bit annoying since I have found at least three sets that I want...)
But back to us... I find that the doll is really pretty, what I like the most are the miniature camperos she's wearing and her big blue eyes (yes, I have a thing for dolls with inlaid eyes, not only painted on)

Anche il vestitino nella sua semplicità è carino, mentre non adoro troppo il cappellone da cowboy, più che altro perché è di plastica piuttosto pesante e fa ciondolare un pò in avanti la bambola...

Even the dress is cute in its simplicity, but I'm not a great fan of the cowboy hat, mostly because it is made of a rather heavy plastic and makes her head dangle a little...

Comunque, considerando il prezzo ridotto, credo sia stato un buon acquisto! Forse, quando avrò un pò di tempo proverò a cucirle dei vestitini nuovi...

However, considering the low price, I think it was a good buy! Maybe when I have some time I'll try to sew new clothes for her...

Delizie per gli occhi: Tiny Feet Magazine/ Eye candies: Tiny Feet Magazine

Ormai è passato il mio primo anniversario come collezionista di bambole (se ci penso mi sembra solo ieri che quel brav'uomo di Dani mi ha portata in tutti i supermercati e negozi di giocattoli della zona per trovare Operetta basic, la mia prima Monster High...) e dopo un anno a leggere articoli, seguire blog e forum, posso dire di essermi fatta una discreta cultura sul tema. Ma ciò che amo di più di queste mie "esplorazioni" digitali è lo scoprire nuove risorse e fonti di informazione (o d'ispirazione). Oggi voglio parlarvi della mia scoperta più recente: Tiny Feet Magazine.

My first anniversary as a doll collector has already passed (thinking about it, it seems only yesterday that Dany took me to all the supermarkets and toys stores of the area to search for basic Operetta, my first Monster High...) and after a year reading articles and following blogs and forums, I can say that I gained a pretty good knowledge of the subject. But what I love the most about my digital "explorations" is discovering new sources of information (and inspiration). Today I want to tell you about my latest discovery: Tiny Feet Magazine.

Tiny Feet è una rivista online dedicata al mondo delle bambole, delle miniature e dei diorami, creata circa un anno fa da Filipa, una fotografa e designer portoghese che ama collezionare bambole e creare abiti e accessory per loro (potete trovare le sue creazioni su Etsy e sul suo negozio personale).

Ogni numero (finora ne sono usciti 6 e potete leggerli tutti online oppure acquistarli in forma cartacea sul sito ufficiale della rivista: http://www.tinyfeetmag.com/) contiene un intervista ad un artista legato al mondo delle bambole, tutorial per realizzare abiti o accessori, una rubrica dedicata allo shopping bamboloso, reportage dalle convention sul tema e diversi servizi fotografici talmente belli e ben realizzati che sembra di leggere una rivista di moda con vere modelle invece che bambole!

Inoltre ce n'è per tutti i gusti, infatti le "modelle" usate nei vari servizi spaziano dalle Blythe alle Licca, passando per ball jointed dolls di ogni tipo e persino Monster High! Infatti ho scoperto la rivista grazie alla pagina facebook di Retrograde Works, un'artista che realizza custom meravigliosi e lavora spesso su Monster High: potete trovare un servizio dedicato ad alcune delle sue "mostruose" creazioni sull'ultimo numero di Tiny feet.

Each issue (she released 6 so far and you can read them all online or buy paper and digital copies on the official site of the magazine: http://www.tinyfeetmag.com/) contains an interview with an artist related to the world of dolls, tutorials for clothes and accessories, a column dedicated to doll shopping, reports from doll conventions and several photo shootings so beautiful and well made that it's like reading a fashion magazine with real models instead of dolls!

Moreover there is something to suit every taste, in fact the "models" used space from Blythes to Liccas, passing for various types of ball jointed dolls and even Monster High! in fact I discovered the magazine thanks to the facebook page of Retrograde Works, an artist who creates wonderful custom dolls  and often works on Monster High: you can find some of her "monstrous"  creations featured on Tiny Feet's latest issue.

Torino Comics 2013

La scorsa settimana (come ogni anno, da che mi sono trasferita in zona Torino), ho visitato il Torino Comics.

Quest'anno sono stata in fiera Venerdì, per fare shopping con Dani e il nostro amico Moreno; e Sabato, per fare i fighi con i nostri costumi da gioco di ruolo dal vivo XD (è da un pò che pianifico un post sulla mia esperienza con i gdr live, ma a quanto pare io e il mio gruppo siamo bravissimi a schivare le foto agli eventi e, non avendo quindi foto decenti dei nostri personaggi, il post non è mai venuto alla luce, ma abbiate fede...).

Come dicevo, Venerdì mi sono dedicata interamente ad esplorare la fiera e, nonostante il budget molto ridotto di quest'anno, alla fine mi sono portata a casa lo stesso qualcosina:

Last week  (as every year, since I moved near Turin) I visited Torino Comics (a local comic convention).
This year I attended the fair on Friday, to do some shopping with Dani and our friend Moreno, and Saturday, to show off our live action role-playing game costumes (it's been a while that I plan an article about my larp experience, but apparently me and my group are very good at dodging the event photographer so, not having some decent pictures of our characters, this post has never come to life, but have faith...).
As I said, on Friday I dedicated my visit to exploring the convention and, despite this year's very low budget, I brought something home with me:

i miei acquisti (decisamente monotematici) sono stati l'ultimo volume di Hellboy, in cui compare anche Batman, l'8 e il 9 del BPRD (sempre di Mignola) e l'action figure di Abe Sapiens dal film di Hellboy. Considerando che il prezzo standard di queste action figures varia tra i 16 e i 24 euro (Hellboy l'avevo pagato 18€), non era nei miei progetti prendere anche gli altri personaggi, ma quando Moreno ha pescato Abe da uno scatolone "tutto a 5€" (lo spesso strato di polvere sulla confezione spiega cosa ci facesse lì dentro...) non ho saputo resistere e l'ho preso :) (anche i fumetti erano scontati: c'è un banco che trovo praticamente ad ogni fiera, che fa sempre il 20% di sconto su tutti i volumi Magic Press).

Sabato invece, non dovendo preoccuparci di portare in giro sacchetti e borse per gli acquisti, siamo tornati in fiera indossando i costumi dei nostri personaggi di Bollaverde, il gdr live a cui partecipiamo dallo scorso Agosto. Eccoci qua in tutto il nostro splendore (e nel mio caso, scomodità XD sì, la mia armatura è in metallo vero) in alcune delle poche foto che sono riuscita a recuperare:

my purchases (definitely monothematic) were the latest volume of Hellboy, which features also Batman, volume 8 and 9 of BPRD (always by Mike Mignola) and the action figure of Abe Sapien from Hellboy movie. Considering that the standard price for these action figures varies between 16 and 24€ (I paid Hellboy 18€), I wasn't planning to buy the other characters, but when Moreno found Abe  in a box that said "Everything at 5€" (the thick coat of dust on the packaging explains why he was there...) I could not resist and bought it :) (the comics also were on sale: there is a seller that I find at almost every convention, that always have 20% of discount on all Magic Press volumes).
On Saturday, not having to carry around big bags for shopping, we went back to the convention wearing our Bollaverde costumes (the larp association we play with since last August). Here we are, in all our glory (and in my case discomfort Xd yes, my armour is real metal) in some of the few pictures I found online:

In conclusione devo dire che la fiera, pur essendo quasi identica (stessi espositori, stessa disposizione) a quelle degli anni passati non mi ha delusa: certo, non ha le dimensioni e la varietà di fiere più importanti come Lucca Comics, ma considerando che ce l'ho vicina a casa e che in questo periodo dell'anno solitamente non  ci sono altre fiere importanti (ci sarebbe il Romics, ma il viaggio è decisamente fuori dalla mia portata), val sempre la pena farci un giro :)

In the end I have to say that the convention, despite being almost identical (same stands, same place) to past years, didn't disappoint me: of course it doesn't have the size and variety of bigger ones, like Lucca Comics, but considering that it's close to home and the only one in this period of the year (well, there's also Romics, but Rome is definitely too distant and costly for me ^^) Torino Comics is always worth visiting :)

Easiest doll skirt tutorial

A while ago Ginger Lola of Lola's Mini Homes asked me to do a tutorial for Operetta's black and white skirt

I admit that I've tried my best to create something understandable, but my sewing skills are very amateur and seems like I'm not very good at writing tutorials too ^_^

But I didn't wanted to disappoint my readers, so I searched the web for an easy rectangle skirt tutorial.

I found this one by Dolly Outiftters very easy to understand, plus it's already doll-sized (it's more difficult to start from human clothes patterns). 

Anyway if you want to sew a skirt for Mosnter High dolls, you'll need to modify the patter a little: in fact Monster High dolls have a greater waist/hips ratio than the doll used in the tutorial so, if you want your skirt to be poofy enough you have to measure 2 times and a half the hips circumference of your MH and use this measurement for the widest side of the fabric rectangle (side B in my drawing below). Side A is up to your choice: if you want  a knee lenght skirt, 8cm are enough.

Since MH dolls are quite small you can also use instead of fabric a piece of tall satin ribbon (as I did for Operetta's skirt) and save some sewing, since ribbon won't fray on the upper and lower side (B), so you'll only have to sew hems on the shorter sides (A).

The last thing you have to consider when sewing for MH is to get the tiniest elastic band you can find (I used a 4mm tall band) or else you'll skirt will end up having a huge waist in proportion to your doll. For the lenght of the waistband don't use the exact waist circumference of the doll, I usually measure 1 time the doll's hips circumference minus a cm: this way the skirt will be reasonably tight on the waist to look nice and the elastic band doesn't stretch too much when sliding over the hips.
